welcome to an overview of an IB Theatre Programme
welcome to an overview of an IB Theatre Programme
It is a practical subject that encourages discovery through experimentation, the taking of risks, and the presentation of ideas to others.
It's for the CURIOUS, MISCHIEVOUS, and CREATIVE student in all of us.
Students enrolled in the IB Theatre Programme read a wide range of offerings, including plays, critical theory, and theatre analysis.
Want to study directing? Lighting design? Dramaturgy? How about honing your acting skills? In IB Theatre, you get to try it all.
Because the projects are built around student chosen and driven topics, what you make comes from you. In creating work, you learn about yourself.
your discovery, your drive, your curriculum
your discovery, your drive, your curriculum
Students will learn the fundamentals of the IB Theatre Programme through Working, Examining, and Creating. They will devise their own courses of study, each student personalizing his/her own path of discovery.
At times, students in the class will be working on the same curriculum. At other times, students will be working alone or in groups on self-directed projects. Each student will have his/her own path through the programme.
Former AD Mike Kleba earned his MA in Theatre at Villanova University with a thesis on solo performance. No longer at the helm of NSHS Theatre, he began as an actor in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia before becoming a director and teacher. His work gravitated toward pieces about gender, race, beauty, and justice. At North Shore, he oversaw educational partnerships with Manhattan Theatre Club, Roundabout Theatre, Epic Theatre Ensemble, and Firebone Theater.
